I saw an interesting lighting situation today.  I was looking at two benches at night.  Both were plastic grates.  Some of the holes were filled in, forming words like “unity” and “cooperation”.  Well for one bench, I could see the words because the area behind it was much lighter, causing the words to be dark.  The bench right next to it, though, had the area behind it much in shadow, making the words seem light, even when they must have been getting the same amount of light.  Funny how the background can change our perception.
