Final Brain Bank

So I wish I could make this a deep and meaningful brain bank, but that really belongs to playing Journey yesterday (seriously, I’m applying to thatgamecompany for co-op).  And today is Saturday, which is unfortunately my animation homework day, wherein I hole up in URBN to do the animation homework I’ve been putting off all week.

Mother nature creates sceneries more pretty than I could ever manage.  Take, for example, this juxtaposition of the northern winter lights and an erupting volcano.

It makes me think of a level from a game, the deliberate contrast of fire and ice, rainbows and snow.

Today I finally got around to playing Journey and I am so glad I did.  It is a wonderfully atmospheric game with a subtle story that invites the player in before tugging them around.  Very artsy, but highly recommended if you’re looking for that sort of thing.

So.

The Christmas music has started.

I heard it for the first time this season walking through Fresh Grocer.

I’m going to be singing it until Valentine’s day.

Bought my first lottery ticket today.  Only one.

Sadly, I am not now a multi-millionaire.  Ah, well.  It was a fun experience.  Even though I knew I probably wouldn’t win, it was fun to imagine.

Spent some time talking with my friends in CA today.  It was really nice, haven’t done so in a while.  It got me thinking about the future and planning the places I want to travel when I have more freedom.

We’re determined to work together and find the perfect place to live — not to hot, not too cold, with plenty of space and the best internet money can buy.

It’s a distant dream, but I’m looking forward to it.

Today I went to Boston Market.  It may seem to be a little early to do so right after their thanksgiving, but I have no regrets.  Their mac and cheese was delicious — almost as good as my mom’s but not quite.

Looking forward to having the real stuff soon enough, though.

But we have two more weeks of classes?  Okay.

Over black friday, I partook in a bit of shopping.  I got a new coat that I was playing around with today as I walked outside.  As I shifted things from pocket to pocket, I found it really interesting the way things could settle and hide within a fluffy coat.  It’s something to consider when designing characters.

Goal: To have the foundations for a simple game, and the road map to making it.

I need:

  • Basic premise — game in a sentence
  • Genre
  • Engine
  • Schedule for creating assets
  • Deadlines for myself
